THE 31ST ANNUAL CLEAN AIR AWARDS
Each year, South Coast AQMD has honored those that have helped to improve the air we breathe across our region. Our air is cleaner and our families are healthier because of their efforts.
Nominations are now closed for the 31st Annual Clean Air Awards.
Clean Air Award Categories:
Business Leadership in Air Quality
This award is presented for an outstanding effort by a small or large business to advance effective solutions to the problem of poor air quality in the South Coast region. Such efforts should be beyond any local, state or federal requirement. Nominated businesses must have a physical presence in California and must demonstrate initiative-driven leadership impacting other businesses, academia or their community.
Clean Air Education and Outreach
This award is presented for an outstanding individual or group effort designed to educate the public on air quality issues, promote efforts to improve air quality, or both. Examples of education include public speaking, working with a special interest group, media outreach, or any effort that helped the public understand what air pollution is and what can be done to help clean the air that we breathe. Examples of outreach efforts include partnerships and cooperative programs that increase awareness of alternative transportation, foster innovative home or community design, improve environmental education, promote zero-emission technologies and processes, or other actions with positive air quality results.
Innovative Clean Air Technology
This award is presented for an extraordinary contribution to the development and application of a new and innovative technology designed to reduce emissions. Examples include the development and production of cleaner fuels, such as alternative diesel fuels and renewable fuels; improved engine design resulting in significantly lower criteria pollutant emissions; a new product that helps other technologies reduce emissions; or an improved technological process resulting in lower emissions during the process.
Model Community Achievement
This award is presented to an exceptional single program or comprehensive strategy that improves air quality and sustainability in a community. The award is intended to recognize collaborative/integrated efforts or programs involving the public, business, nonprofits and government. Examples of eligible programs within this category include those programs which strengthen sustainability and/or further environmental stewardship, innovative transportation programs such as those promoting public transportation and other transportation methods (such as walking, bicycling, ridesharing, vanpools, etc.) that reduce reliance on single passenger vehicles, efforts that decrease vehicle miles traveled, strategies resulting in reduction of traffic congestion and improved air quality and health, improvements that increase energy efficiency and increased conservation, and local planning efforts which successfully incorporate environmentally sensitive zoning.
Youth Leadership in Air Quality
This award is for an outstanding effort by an individual (aged 18 or younger) who has shown a commitment to cleaning up air pollution. An emphasis will be on the personal efforts, uniqueness, and inspirational value of the youth and the youth's efforts.
