Background
Since August 1995, AQMD has been utilizing the services of student
interns provided through the Co-op Program of the Cal Poly Pomona Foundation
(Foundation). The Foundation provides intern opportunities to students from
many of the local colleges and universities. This program has been
beneficial for both AQMD and the student interns. College students who are
selected in the program have gained real-world work experience at the same
time that they are earning academic credits for their college education.
These interns perform such tasks as assisting in the annual fixed asset
inventory, financial report reconciliation, and performing miscellaneous
tasks in Payroll and Accounting. The total amount of the contract through
August 31, 2006 is $56,000 which includes the amount of $24,000 approved by
the Board in June 2004. It is estimated that $24,000 of student intern
services will be needed in FY 2006-07.
Proposal
Execute a new three-year contract with the Cal Poly Pomona Foundation for
Co-op Program Services in an amount not to exceed $24,000 per year through
August 31, 2009.
Resource Impacts
Funds for the first year of the contract are included in the FY 2006-07
Budget and will be requested in the FY 2007-08 and FY 2008-09 budgets for
the second and third years.
