The Gas Log Purchase Incentive Program1

What is the AQMD’s gas log purchase-incentive program?
As part of the Healthy Hearths initiative the AQMD Governing Board approved funding to reduce the cost to purchase and install gas log sets in local area households. Under the program, residents can receive up to a $125 discount from the price of purchasing and installing gas log sets to replace existing wood-burning fireplaces and receive up to $75 in hearth product accessories.

How does the program work?
First, go to one of the participating retailers (PDF, 50kb). The list of participating retailers has been arranged by ZIP code to help you find the store that is most convenient for you. After speaking with a representative and selecting the product you like, the participating retailer will apply the discount to the purchase and installation price. The discount depends on the manufacturer as shown below. The last column of the retailer list shows the manufacturer’s products that are sold at the various stores.

You can then work with the retailer to arrange for product installation.

*Hearth product accessories must be provided by the same manufacturer and be for the gas log set or other products. The $75 retail value is offered in conjunction with the purchase and installation of a gas log set.

Am I eligible to receive an incentive to add a gas log set to my existing wood-burning fireplace ?
The program is open to residents of the South Coast Air Basin, excluding mountain communities. The South Coast Air Basin includes all of Orange County and the non-desert portions of Los Angeles, Riverside and San Bernardino Counties. You can visit the list of eligible ZIP codes (PDF, 244kb) if you would like to verify that you can participate in the program. Please note that if you reside in one of the few ZIP codes that are highlighted, please contact Mike Laybourn, mlaybourn@aqmd.gov (909) 396-3066 for a final determination of program eligibility.

1 The South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD) is solely providing a financial incentive to facilitate program implementation and that the AQMD does not warrant or endorse any hearth product purchased under the Fireplace Gas Log Buy-Down Incentive Program for any purpose, including materials, workmanship, merchantability, or fitness for use.

Do I need to submit any rebate forms or paperwork?
No. The participating retailer will fill out all the necessary paperwork. Only a signature at the time of complete installation is required.

How soon after purchase can I expect installation?
Product installation and scheduling will be worked out between you and the participating retailer and every effort will be made to have the installation completed as soon as possible.

How many gas-log units will be available?
AQMD’s incentive program includes funding for 5,000 gas-log units. Units will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Can I buy my own device and install it myself and apply for a rebate?
No. This program is only offered through participating retailers and verified installation is required to ensure that the product is installed safely and into an eligible household.

I have already installed a gas log set. Am I eligible for the rebate?
Unfortunately, the program is only for future purchases and installations made through participating retailers at the time of sale. There are no rebates available for previous installations.

If you have any questions you can contact the program representatives listed above.
