Governing Board Re-Elects Chairman Burke, Vice-Chairman Benoit, Swears in Supervisor Barger

On November 1, 2019 the South Coast Air Quality Management District Governing Board voted to re-elect William A. Burke, Ed.D., to an unprecedented 13th term as Chairman. He first joined the Board in 1993 as the appointee of Assembly Speaker Willie L. Brown. When his two-year term ends, Burke will become the longest tenured member and the longest serving chairman of the Governing Board.

Ben Benoit, council member for the City of Wildomar, was re-elected to his third term as Vice Chairman. He also serves as Vice Chair for the Western Riverside Council of Governments, and as a member of the Riverside County Transportation Commission. He was appointed as the Cities of Riverside County representative to the Governing Board in February 2013 and was first elected as vice chairman in January 2016.  Their new terms begin on January 14, 2020.

At the December 6 meeting, Supervisor Kathryn Barger was sworn in as the newest member of the Governing Board, replacing Supervisor Janice Hahn as the County of Los Angeles’s representative. She represents the Fifth District which includes 22 cities and 70 unincorporated communities in the San Gabriel, San Fernando, La Crescenta, Santa Clarita and Antelope Valleys.
