CYCLING WORKSHOPS TO PRESENT A CLEAN ALTERNATIVE

CyclistThe Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition (LACBC) and AQMD are teaming up to increase air quality awareness and promote bicycling as a clean transportation alternative.

Through its Community Partnership program AQMD will fund 25 bicycle workshops to be conducted throughout Los Angeles County by the Coalition. LACBC workshop leaders will educate attendees about the health and economic benefits of bicycling, safe riding techniques, proper clothing, and basic maintenance, then encourage participants to ride their bicycles whenever possible.

Attendees also will receive bike maps, bike on buses brochures, and safety information. Three prizes will be raffled off during each workshop: a tire patch kit, a bike light and bike pump.

"We anticipate as much success with this program as other bicycling coalitions have had in cities like Toronto, Canada, Portland Oregon, San Francisco," said Ron Milam, executive director of the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition. "I anticipate our first 25 workshops will fill quickly."

The LACBC is looking for hosts and locations for the first 25 workshops, which they plan to hold in early 2001. Possible location could be area churches, community or senior centers, parks, worksites, etc. Additional workshops, beyond the first 25, also can be arranged for a fee/donation made to the LACBC.

If you’re interested in hosting or attending a workshop, or have any questions please call Ron Milam of the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition at (213) 629-2142. To learn more about the LACBC, check out www.labikecoalition.org.
