SAN BERNARDINO SUPERVISOR OVITT JOINS AQMD BOARD

Feb. 4, 2005

To represent San Bernardino County

San Bernardino County Supervisor Gary Ovitt was sworn in today as the newest member of the South Coast Air Quality Management District’s Governing Board.

Ovitt will represent San Bernardino County on AQMD’s Board.

Ovitt was elected in 2004 as the Fourth District Supervisor for San Bernardino County.  From 1998 to 2004 he served as mayor of Ontario.  He was first elected to the Ontario City Council in 1992.

In addition to the AQMD Board, Ovitt will continue to serve as a board member of numerous other organizations, including San Bernardino Associated Governments, Omnitrans Transit Agency and Southern California Association of Governments.

Before joining the Ontario City Council, Ovitt was a teacher for 35 years at Chaffey High School in Ontario -- his alma mater -- where he taught government, history and work experience.  Along with teaching, he also mentored students and coached several sports.

Ovitt is a graduate of the University of Redlands.

AQMD Board members serve four-year terms.  Ovitt will fill the unexpired term of San Bernardino County Supervisor Bill Postmus, which ends on Jan. 15, 2007.

In other action today, the Board:
