750 Additional Mowers to be Exchanged
WHAT: Responding to record demand, AQMD today added 750 mowers to
its popular “Mow Down Air Pollution” program and reopened registration today
for seven exchange events across the Southland. Registration had closed
last week after the program sold 4,000 mowers. Residents now have one more
opportunity to register to exchange a working gas-powered mower for a new
electric mower, valued at $399, for just $100. Pre-registration is
required (see below). The exchange events will take place on seven
Saturdays from approximately 8 a.m. to 12 noon starting tomorrow at the

information is available in English and Spanish.
WHY: One typical gas-powered lawn mower pollutes as much in one
year as 43 new cars driven for one year. By June, AQMD will have exchanged
nearly 25,000 gasoline mowers for zero-emission electric mowers and reduced
about 121 tons of smog-forming pollution since the program began in 2003.
