AQMD to Host Town Hall Meeting on Efforts to Reduce Dust Emissions from Cement Facilities

WHAT: The South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD) will host a community town hall meeting in Rubidoux to provide detailed information on ongoing efforts to reduce emissions from cement operations in the area. At the meeting, AQMD representatives will provide an update on recent efforts and respond to questions from residents. To further reduce emissions from all cement facilities in the Southland, AQMD plans to amend its Rule 1156 – PM10 Emission Reductions from Cement Manufacturing Facilities.

WHY: Earlier this year, the AQMD concluded that TXI Riverside Cement was responsible for elevated levels of the cancer-causing chemical hexavalent chromium found in the Rubidoux area. In June, AQMD reached a settlement with TXI Riverside Cement to significantly reduce dust emissions from its operations.
