     Health Risk Assessment


As defined by the Air Toxics “Hot Spots” Information and Assessment Act, health risk assessment (HRA) is a detailed comprehensive analysis to evaluate and predict the dispersion of hazardous substances in the environment and the potential for exposure of human populations and to assess and quantify both the individual and population-wide health risks associated with those levels of exposure.  Both the AQMD and the state Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) review HRAs submitted by facilities per the requirements of the Act.  Risk assessment guidance from OEHHA and the AQMD is provided in links below.
