In order to comply with the upcoming CARB’s amendments to their regulations
and to streamline the evaluation of diesel engines subject to the AB 2588
"Hot Spots" program, CARB has developed health conservative
screening risk
assessment tables that engine owners can use to estimate their overall
facility risk from diesel engine exhaust particulate matter (PM) from
stationary diesel engines. Because cancer effects from diesel PM generally
drive the risk from diesel engines, chronic and acute affects were not
included in their process. Facilities are encouraged to estimate their
risks and consider the information provided here before deciding on a Rule
1470 compliance option.
