Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. owns and operates 17 miles of pipeline in the industrial/commercial districts of Torrance and Wilmington, the only one of its kind in an urban area in North America. The proposed hydrogen fueling station in Torrance will utilize the pipeline system to deliver hydrogen to the fueling site. Several fuel cell vehicle manufacturers have their headquarters within two miles of this proposed fueling station. This contract amendment will allow the incorporation of a pressure swing absorption system (PSA) that will purify the pipeline-grade hydrogen provided by the pipeline to the higher fuel purity level required by the fuel cell vehicle manufacturers. Since the PSA operates at high pressure, this will result in further savings when the purified hydrogen is further compressed for storage.
