Western Riverside Council of Governments
(WRCOG), Western Riverside County Clean
Cities Coalition, and the AQMD sponsored a
half day summit on the AB2766 Motor Vehicle
Subvention Fund Program. In 1990,
California Assembly Bill 2766 passed and now
provides for the collection of an additional
$6 in motor vehicle registration fees to
fund various air pollution reduction
efforts. From each dollar collected, a
portion is distributed on a quarterly basis
by the AQMD to cities and counties located in
the South Coast District, based on their
percentage of population, to be used to
reduce motor vehicle related air pollution.
Many elected officials are unaware of these dollars coming into their
Cities or County and are not aware of which programs are being funded.
This summit provided an introduction to AB2766, additional
funding opportunities, and lessons learned that look "outside of the box"
for creative ways to spend AB2766 fund with proven results.
