Zero-Emission Class 8 Freight and Port Drayage Trucks Category

This category is intended to support the expansion of zero-emission truck availability in the heaviest weight class that have typically relied on diesel technologies. Projects will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.

Funding Availability and Timeline

There are $90 million in funds allocated to this category, for which the first installment will be $27 million. The first installment is expected to open in Summer/Fall of 2020. 

Eligible Applicants and Projects

Both public and private entities that own and operate eligible vehicles in California may apply. Funding is available to replace the following vehicles with zero emission technologies:

  • Class 8 only:
    • Freight Trucks  
    • Waste Haulers
    • Dump Trucks  
    • Concrete Mixers 

Basic Project Requirements

  • Ownership: Proof of ownership for at least two years.
  • Operation: Operate old and new vehicle at least 90% of the time within California.
  • Scrapping: Existing vehicle must be scrapped.
  • Certification: New vehicle must be certified or verified by CARB.
  • Reporting: Applicants granted an award must submit annual usage reports for the term of the contract.
