$140 Million Approved to Replace Dirty Equipment

On January 7, 2022, the South Coast AQMD Governing Board approved $140.7 million in incentive projects that will replace older, higher polluting diesel vehicles and equipment with cleaner technologies that will reduce emissions such as Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) and Particulate Matter (PM).

Upgraded equipment will include heavy-duty trucks, off-road agricultural and construction equipment as well as locomotives and cargo handling equipment. Additionally, funds were awarded to support charging infrastructure projects.

These projects will provide estimated reductions benefits of 434 tons/year of NOx and 10.5 ton/year of PM. More than 80 percent of the awarded projects will benefit disadvantaged and low-income communities. The projects will be funded under South Coast AQMD’s Carl Moyer, Funding Agricultural Replacement Measures for Emission Reductions (FARMER), Surplus Off-Road Opt-in for NOx (SOON), State Reserve and Community Air Protection Programs.
