178 Clean School Buses to Be Provided Across Southern California

In December 2021 the South Coast AQMD Governing Board approved approximately $47 million to 46 school districts located across South Coast AQMD’s jurisdiction. These funds will be used to replace 178 high-emitting school buses with zero and nearzero emission school buses along with helping install supporting infrastructure.

Replacing older, high-polluting buses helps reduce smog forming emissions while also helping to reduce school children’s exposure to toxic diesel exhaust. Since the School Bus program started in 2001 the South Coast AQMD has spent over $325 million to replace over 1,800 school buses and retrofit 3,400 buses with filters to trap particulate matter pollution.
