South Coast AQMD commemorated Women’s Herstory
Month with a virtual event featuring Riverside Mayor
and Governing Board Member Patricia Lock Dawson,
highlighting the importance of leadership, public service,
and community impact. The program brought together staff
for a keynote address and moderated discussion focusing on
how women are shaping policy and advancing community
well-being.
Mayor Lock Dawson shared reflections on her path from environmental scientist to public servant, emphasizing how a foundation in science can strengthen decision-making and help translate complex issues into meaningful action. She spoke about the value of collaboration across agencies and communities, noting that effective solutions are built through shared understanding and inclusive engagement. The discussion also explored the realities of leadership, including navigating complex challenges while staying grounded in purpose.
Events like this demonstrate South Coast AQMD’s commitment to fostering informed, connected teams and highlight how leadership, service, and community partnership advance healthier, more resilient communities.
