Safecast is a global project working to empower people with data by mapping radiation levels and building a sensor networks. The community is allowed to contribute radiation data and freely use the data collected. The Safecast group started after March 2011 earthquake and resulting nuclear situation at Fukushima Diachi.
This event established the need for more data than what was available for the general public. This group is looking at the potential of building environmental sensor networks as well.
