The South Coast Air Basin (Basin) is a "serious" nonattainment area for the 2012 annual PM2.5 standard, with an attainment date of December 31, 2025. In March 2023, South Coast AQMD withdrew the previous plan addressing the standard to avoid potential disapproval of the plan by U.S. EPA. Staff then began working on a new plan that requests a 5-year extension and demonstrates attainment of the standard by December 31, 2030.
